Before switching the domain
First check the copy on the new hosting using a method available for your service. Keep the old hosting and backups until you have confirmed that the project works correctly.
Migration checklist
- Open the homepage and several important inner pages.
- Check images, styles, scripts and downloadable files.
- Submit a test form and confirm the expected result.
- Make sure dynamic content and database data are current.
- Check HTTPS and redirects, if configured.
- Check incoming and outgoing email if it uses the domain.
- Review DNS and record the changes before switching the domain.
After changing DNS
Allow DNS changes to take effect and repeat the main checks. Keep the old hosting until the domain serves the new version and required services work.
Verify the result
- Key pages and forms work on the new hosting.
- Website content matches the current version.
- HTTPS and required email services have been checked.
- You still have access to a backup and the old hosting until checks are complete.
