A website migration is easier to manage when it is split into small steps. First list the files, databases, email accounts and settings that belong to the project.
Before the move
- Create a current backup of the files and database.
- Record the existing DNS and mail settings.
- Check the CMS version and hosting requirements.
- Choose a low-traffic time for the final switch.
Test before updating DNS
Upload the website and import the database on the new hosting account. Check key pages, forms, images, SSL and email. Update DNS only after the copied website works as expected.
